SMOKING HOT CITY

Sightseeing in a weekend

Visiting an exciting new city abroad calls for a bit of sightseeing, even if you’re on a stag do, it’s always great fun to check out the top tourist spots of Amsterdam.

If you enjoy soaking in history, a visit to the Rijksmuseum is a must! Rijksmuseum, is one of the most breathtaking museums in the world due to its stunning architecture and vast variety of beautiful antiques, showcasing the uniqueness of Dutch culture. The most famous piece being Rembrandt's masterpiece the Night Watch.

While on the subject of museums and art, any lover of art would be nuts to visit Amsterdam and not take a pit stop at the Van Gogh Museum. Home to the world’s largest collection of masterpieces by the famous Dutch painter, Vincent van Gogh, featuring the world famous paintings such as Sunflowers, The Potato Eaters, Almond Blossom and The Bedroom.

When you think of Amsterdam most the first thing that comes to your mind is usually legalized weed and red light district, so when you hear XXX your fantasy can really play tricks, or you think this city is just full of ladies sending you kisses but the XXX in Amsterdam actually according to historians stand for the crosses of Saint Andrew, a fisherman who was martyred on an X-shaped cross in the 1st century. But lets go with ladies blowing kisses, cuz that’s just a happier story.

Wanting to conserve the memory of Anne Frank, the original house where the Frank family hid for over two years from the Nazis, was thankfully saved from demolition by protesters The Anne Frank house now stands as the most visited tourist attractions in Amsterdam.

Take a walk around the Jordaan, a charming Dutch neighbourhood with 17th century houses, cafes, craft speciality shops and many quirky cafes. Or Buy a beer and sit down in Vondelpark the most famous park of the city, designed and built in 1850.

Ok enough about history, what should you visit during a Stag do Weekend in Amsterdam?

Boys will be boys, and let’s face it, a group of guys on a stag do in Amsterdam, won’t want to spend the whole day in museums, or actually most any of it. So for the big football fans, a visit to the famous Johan Cruijff arena stadium, home to the ASF Ajax team, seeing the interior of a beautiful stadium is a fantastic experience.

And for all you beer lovers looking for something fun to do during the day, check out the Heineken experience! Where you’ll learn about the history of brewing this delicious drink, the natural ingredients of the beer, brewing process and the best part of all, the tasting room.

When your sightseeing you will see hooks under all the windows of the houses. But we are not giving that away just yet. Make sure you ask your guide what those are about!

BOYS BE DAM-NED!

The home of the Beer bikes this city is a great place to rent a bike with your mates and cycle around the city.

Steak and Strip is one of the favourites for a stag do as it’s a cheap way to eat a steak and be entertained by one of the most beautiful sights Amsterdam has to offer, before you night out or tour of the Red light district starts.

Looking for something absolutely ridiculous then try the “Party Fire Truck”. With its dance pole, red leather sofas, flat screen TV this fire truck combines the dreams you had as a little boy and the fantasies as a man to a reality you can’t imagine!

EAT - DRINK- MUNCHIES!

Wherever you go in the world, trying local booze and bites to eat is essential to your wellbeing. When in Amsterdam be sure to try some Jenever, The Dutch equivalent to gin, it’s strong stuff! So be sure to try it first with tonic before downing shots of it and washing it down with beer.

Coffeeshops

Outside of each coffee shop you will find a place to satisfy those munchies with Nutella crepes and all the sweets and deserts you can imagine. This city is well prepared!

Top coffee shops:
Barney’s Coffeeshop: Winner of the most important: “High Times Cup” award

Steak is always a good choice on a stag do in Amsterdam, we love Amigo restaurant, as their speciality is steak and they are out of this world! The setting is unique, as it really feels like your stepping into Mexico due to its layout and decoration.

Be sure to check out “Getto”, the coolest place to grab a burger and beer. With disco balls lighting up the venue, and the Burgers being named after famous Drag queens, you’ll be sure to have a meal to remember!

TRIP TO AMSTERDAM

If you’re living in the UK, you’re lucky when it comes to transport to Amsterdam. Hop on a plane, with some insanely cheap deals with Easy Jet, with a flight time of just over an hour. Other wallet friendly options include taking a coach or train, as you can get there in just under half a day, giving you lots of time to enjoy all the city has to offer during your stag do weekend in Amsterdam. You will probably arrive in Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS), where you can either hop on a bus or a train for a mere 30 minute journey to the city centre. However, when travelling with a larger group, luggage, and probably the old drunk friend in tow, take our advice and organize an airport transfer to your accommodation. It’s easier to start a stag do weekend stress free, knowing that everyone is together and in one place, ready to start the weekend, rather than worrying if everyone has boarded the same train or accidently missed the bus because he was buying another round of Heineken!

Once you’d checked out the fluid side of Amsterdam and its stunning canals by boat, the best way to see the city is definitely by foot or even better, rent a bicycle and experience it the way the locals do! Careful of the bikes! There are so so so many and watch out - they have the right of way!

But if you and your stag group prefer to hop on a bus or tram, we suggest getting yourselves an unlimited use OV chip card. You can choose between one hour cards, or day cards that range from one to seven days depending on what suits and how long your stag do in Amsterdam lasts of course!

DAM COOL WEATHER

Amsterdam is definitely not considered a tropical destination with highs in July and August of around 20°C and lows in January of at 3°C, its much like the UK. Lots of Rain in November. But honestly who cares? On a stag do in Amsterdam you can get your real highs and lows elsewhere, right?

SLEEPING IN NEVERLAND

The capital city of the Netherlands, Amsterdam is not under the list of boring cities, beautiful during the day and crazy at night, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint with accommodation either! Ranging from sassy modern apartments to stylist slick Amsterdam hotels, to the most unique option of all, you can experience sleeping on the canals itself in a quirky little houseboat! Of course we’d suggest leaving that to a trip with the Missus rather than your stag do buddies, as the light waves of the waters current don’t mix too well with a hangover! Accommodation is Amsterdam is not cheap so Hostels are also a great option when you just need a place to crash. We’d recommend staying in the Old Centre, as more budget friendly options are available here, it’s just a short walk from the top sights and attractions and the best part? The red light district is right on your doorstep! If your booking yourselves, here is a hint: don’t mention your on a stag do because the providers are, lets just say, not as excited as you are about that news. Or get in touch with us and we will hook you up with stag friendly hotels and apartments. All in all, Amsterdam has some great accommodation options, and with our team of experts, we’re sure to find you the best place to stay during your stag do.
